Joystiq follows the VGA GotY win for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by asking Bethesda's Todd Howard about plans for DLC and other post-release support. He explains, without offering too much detail: Howard couldn't yet share plans for DLC, but he says it will be focused on "ways to make the game better, not just have more, because the game is so big. So we're going through ideas right now, and processing everything people are doing in the game, and trying to think of ways that we can improve it." There will be multiple releases (as with Bethesda's past games), but Howard says they "don't have a timetable. They won't be quick, and they'll have a lot of meat on them."

I completed the main quest earlier today but only thanks to the LAA patch floating about, as the game was chronically unstable out-of-the-box and even after the latest patch. The game was crashing after less than 10 minutes, yet apply the LAA fix and I've just completed 4hrs without ANY issues. I know Bethesda are working on a patch to add LAA support but I'm very disappointed, as I never had any problems with Oblivion out-of-the-box.
As for the comments, I do agree that it sounds like gameplay tweaks or fixes - stuff that really should be for patches. That's probably not what they meant but I think they have to tread very carefully. Saying that, I'm really interested to see what they do. I just hope the content is more interesting than the Imperial / Stormcloak plot line, as it was tedious as fuck with every mission being "talk to A; attack B; go back to A; attack C; etc" - absolutely no originality. Not only that it was deeply broken, as I didn't get one of the achievements (one that was impossible not to get as I completed later missions) and my brother came across a bug that completely broke it.
Keep working on new content but the game really does need a lot of work. It's a very good game but it did start to get very samey the further I go in and the dragon battles are pretty underwhelming. |
