The World of Warcraft Website announces "Battle.net Balance," a new system coming soon to Battle.net to provide new payment options for Blizzard products and services. Here's the deal: Soon, we’ll be introducing a new feature called Battle.net Balance that will give players an alternate way to purchase Blizzard products and services directly through their Battle.net account. Players will be able to “charge up” their Battle.net Balance using a variety of payment methods, and then use their Battle.net Balance to buy services like World of Warcraft character transfers, digital products like pets and mounts, and more. Players will also be able to use their Battle.net Account Balance to buy items and store their earnings from Diablo III’s currency-based auction house once the game is released.
We’ll be rolling out the new Battle.net Balance feature in the weeks ahead -- but in the meantime, check out our Battle.net Balance FAQ to find out more about how it’s going to work.

Why aren't Blizzard games on Steam? I picked up Starcraft II a while back but because it's not on Steam I don't end up playing it as much as I otherwise would have. That's mainly because I often play about with my Windows install - for instance, I installed the Win8 Developer Preview and will try the Beta in February - and Steam is always my first app installed after drivers and anti-virus. I rarely get around to installing all the other distribution services, like Impulse, Origin, Battle.net, Hi-Command, ArenaNet, Desura, installers from GOG.com, etc.
Steam has made gaming simple for me and it annoys me when other developers / publishers make things more difficult than they need to be. I don't have a problem with paying more on Steam, if I feel the game is worth it... so it's not like publishers even have the excuse that they won't earn as much. It's political bullshit. |
