GameSpot has word on plans for three different special editions for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, 38 Studios' upcoming RPG: An $80 Special Edition, a $200 Collector's Edition, and a $275 Signature Edition. Each edition includes the game, while the Special Edition adds a parchment map, a seven-piece dice set, a soundtrack, a set of 40 Destiny Cards, and a downloadable content pack of nine weapons with experience point boosts. The Collector's Edition is limited to 700 copies, offering all the contents of the Special Edition as well as an individually numbered 12.5-inch solid resin Prismere Troll figurine designed by McFarlane Toys and one of 1,000 lithographs signed by designer Ken Rolston. I could have sworn I saw a developer compare the combat to god of war. How exactly is the game hobbled by being on the consoles? It is clearly a console style action game that's getting a pc port.

It's not necessarily only the gameplay that is consoley. For me, console ports have atrocious PC UIs. The UI is how you interact with the game, and having to fart around with nested, scrolling menus, limited hotkeys and the like tends to ruin my immersion in the game.

Skyrim, for instance. A great fucking game, but I curse the UI every time I need to "favorite" something in my inventory, and then go into my "favorites" menu and assign it a hotkey (one of only eight). Also, a paperdoll inventory screen (with tabbed category screens) that favors a mouse over a console controller should be part of every PC RPG. You get a visual of your character, and you can see instantaneously how every item affects all your stats.

It's not that the PC version is hobbled, per se, it's just that it could have been so much better had consoles not been taken into account when designing the interface. That's what is so infuriating to PC gamers (read:me). I think only when console controllers have 104 keys will PC gamers stop bitching about console ports.
