Large Address Aware Skyrim

This (not particularly recent) thread on the techPowerUp! Forums offers an application and instructions on how to systems with 3GB of RAM or more to use more memory for Large Address Aware applications. Thanks GamesDot.org, where they note its applicability to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The real question is why you would have 12GB of RAM in the first place. Blame consoles or blame slowing computing progression, but RAM usage has been peaked for a while now. 4GB is still more than enough for most anything, doubly so for games.

RAM usage has peaked in games largely due to consoles - after all, the 360 and the PS3 both only have 512MB RAM total between video and system RAM. Epic has been screaming for the need for more RAM on the consoles to drive further technical advancements for years now.

4GB, under most circumstances, is enough... for now. I still say, however, that once the next crop of consoles hits and more people are using a 64-bit OS that said number could jump - and quickly. (Translation: by 2014 we might be seeing 16GB of RAM as the norm for performance systems, and 32-64GB for enthusiast rigs.)
