The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition Details

The Bethesda Blog  has details on a The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition (not to be confused with Mojang's Scrolls), which will be released for all platforms alongside the standard edition of the RPG sequel on 11/11/11. This will be $149.99 (US), €149.99 (Europe), £129.99 (UK), and A$199.99 (Australia), and the say those interested should preorder, as it will be offered in "very limited quantities." Here's what this includes:

  • Alduin Statue: Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector’s only statue stands 12” tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater. He stands perched atop one the game’s many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons.
  • ‘The Art of Skyrim’ Official Art Book: Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-color illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 9 3/8” x 12 1/8” coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments, and weaponry of Skyrim. With a foreword by game director Todd Howard and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists, readers will be guided through the game’s iconic visual style.
  • ‘The Making of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ DVD This documentary DVD contains exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage, including interviews with the Bethesda Game Studios team as they take you from concept to creation and provide insights into the story, gameplay, setting, legacy of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and much more.

This thread is full of whine. If you don't like it, don't buy it. No need to classify anyone who does buy it as some type of mental defective just because you can't see the worth. That just makes you a sad, sad person.

The only whine in it is coming from the "don't like it, don't buy it" crowd, who seem to be personally offended when a blatant rip-off is pointed out. Mysteriously, people are perfectly capable of distinguishing between their personal tastes and an objective assesment of the value of an item.

As a hypothetical example, two people collect swords. One buys a hand-forged sword from a swordsmith for $2000, the other a factory stamped stainless steel "Limited Edition" replica for $1000. I don't collect swords, yet I can objectively determine that Person A probably got value for money whereas Person B paid drastically over the material value for the "Limited Edition" tag.

Whether he's happy with it or not is irrelevant, whether I collect or value them or not is irrelevant, it's still objectively a rip off and can be labelled as such without trite aphorisms being waved around.
