Well, it took a while to dig up the QUAKE CD yesterday, but I was able to install the game, patch it, and download and install WinQUAKE. I was saddened to realize that I could not recall any console commands off the top of my head, but was eventually able to turn on mouselook and other important functions. The game ran smoothly at 1280x1024, though character animations seemed a little jumpy. It's been a while since I last played the original, and one of the most surprising things was recalling that in spite of all the 3D polygon-based characters and geometry, just how many effects in the game still used sprites.
