Out of the Blue

Today is Independence Day here in the US, and the traditional fireworks have arrived along with it. This is an annual problem for us, as loud explosions are the only thing known to man that frighten our Hudson the wonder dog, who is positively paralyzed by fireworks. We will do or best to comfort her, and I guess we can take some comfort ourselves in the fact that at least we only dress her up on Halloween.

the danger is that the dog learns to associate panic with reward.. depending on the particular animal's capability for abstraction, its capacity to relate various events together along a linear sequence of time is the variable in question

just like people, you have to work with individual dogs on an individual basis... you know, if what you are doing doesnt work then you need to change the strategy - if it does work then keep on rockin
