Supreme Commander 2 Demo

Steam News announces the playable demo for Supreme Commander 2 is now available on Valve's digital distribution network, offering a sample of the real-time strategy sequel from Gas Powered Games. The demo includes two levels of the tutorial along with two missions for the United Earth Federation (UEF), one of the three Colonial Defense Coalition factions. Valve also announces that the demo and the upcoming full retail and electronic versions of the game will both include full Steamworks support for auto-updates, Steam achievements, Steam support for in-game DLC, and more. Supreme Commander 2 is due in North America on March 2, and in PAL territories on March 5. Steam has also begun accepting preorders for the game.

For those of you having a tough time getting the demo, try restarting steam. Also it needs a directx update, first attempt gave me an error and it failed to start, the second attempt worked like a charm.

My feelings are that the game is fun and it looks nice, but it just feels to much of the challenges that made FA great are removed, it's to simplified, has Xbox all over it. Shame really.

There are numerous graphical improvements such as the lighting and water. but there are also a lot of big step backwards in other textures, no beach's, Some ground textures are just bland creating that consolized feeling, There is no tarmac being created under the base to give that huge base appeal , just buildings plunked down with little visual taste.
The maps feel way to cramped and I am not a fan of this platform fighting demigod design. I already miss the huge expansive feel of FA land maps. But big maps are what went out the window to optimize it to play on underwhelming Xbox.

I'll buy the game to help support an independent developer like gpg but I can only hope that they will put out a map editor and strong modding tools to allow the community to make those bigger maps that are needed to bring the game play of FA back.

They also should have implemented directx 11, the tessellation feature would have helped a lot.
