Irrational Games Name Revived has word that 2K Boston, the studio formerly known as Irrational Games, is reverting to that name, and will henceforth again be known as Irrational Games. Apparently there was a realization somewhere along the way that the name change had been, well, irrational, as the studio had built a strong reputation under its original moniker. Word is: "This return to its roots is more than just a new name and logo for Irrational Games. It represents a renewed commitment to the studio's fans, which you can see for yourself at the new The site is currently just a countdown timer, but soon you'll experience an array of cool community features, insight into the game creation process, and never-before-seen tidbits about games like System Shock 2, Freedom Force, and BioShock."

IG ruined Swat 4. Swat 3 was a fairly realistic police sim and was loved by people who wanted a tactical shooter. Swat 4 was watered down to appeal to the CounterStrike masses. It looked like Vivendi would call on IG when they wanted a software developer to attempt to make a franchise more mainstream and thus make more money. IG seemed all too willing to take the contract. Unfortunately all they did was kill two much loved franchises.

IG didn't care about the existing fan base and they didn't even bother to research what Swat 3 was about (the lead developer admitted that he never even tried Swat 3). How can they make a sequel without even bothering to try the earlier versions? IG was simply arrogant and lazy.

An example of how silly Swat 4 became was the "magical doors". In Swat 4 whenever you opened a door it ALWAYS opens away from matter what side of the door you stood on. Magical door hinges. At first this may seem like not that big of a deal but you must understand a big part of Swat is how you enter a room. Having magical doors strips away the realism from the game and kills a lot of the strategic/tactical planning that is a massive part of Swat. They turned the game into a brainless shooter.
