HEY, those were the very words I was going to use to explain the rampant amount of thieft commited against the pc platform!!! That's actually correct. PC piracy is very accessible and convenient, which is why it's far more prevalent than console piracy.
But keep justifying it. I'm not justifying piracy. I'm explaining why MW2 hasn't been selling so hot on the PC.
Bottom line is People WANTED this game (4 million illegal downloads). Those who steal stole, and it was as easy as clicking a button. It doesn't require intense desire to download a game for free. The cheaper something is, the more likely people are to take it, even if they don't really want it. Refer to the Steam holiday sales. A lot of games that people had no interest in before but picked up anyway because they were so cheap. Free is about as cheap as you can get so downloading a pirated game doesn't exactly establish anything.
Consoles are static and easy to program for and pc software theft just keeps raping the pc gaming market to the point of non existence. PS3 is definitely not easy to program for. 360 is pretty easy but you still have to deal with hardware constraints. Trust me, developers do not like being stuck with 512 megs of memory, nor do they like having to fit their game onto a 6.8 GB DVD. Data streaming is also a major issue, as is maintaining 30 FPS. However, consoles still sell very well because of their ease and convenience and this is why developers continue to focus on them. If piracy disappeared, this wouldn't change.
I know this isn't an apples to apples comparison but a developer from Runic went as far to add an option in the .ini file to turn off the screen shake because a poster mentioned it would cause motion sickness for him/her. Its not difficult to figure out which developer gets my undying love and money. Wait, are you suggesting that PC gamers have different standards than console gamers and that providing them with the exact same game won't result in stellar PC sales? Nonsense! After all, IW repeatedly stated that PC gamers would love IW.net and that providing the exact same game as the console versions is better for everyone. Surely IW knows best!
