DOOM 4 Writer Revealed

Computer and Video Games has news that award-winning British fantasy author Graham Joyce is working with id Software to help create the story for DOOM 4, the next installment in id's horror-themes science fiction shooter series. There are no new details on the exact direction the game will take, as all Joyce says about the collaboration is: "I can say that ID have hired me to help develop the storyline potential."

Heh I think its funny how people say we want the old Doom then complain about Doom 3's dark corridors and monsters popping out of closets. Your memorys failing you, the original Doom was full of dark tight spaces and had monsters popping out of hidden areas all the time. Granted the original did have some larger open areas with hordes of beasts but tight dark monster popping was very much a theme of the original.

I can't speak for others, but when I say I want old DOOM and DOOM3 wasn't it, I'm speaking mainly about the leaping/jumping nonsense of the monsters in the new one. I expect monster closets...I just don't expect imps to jump 50 feet, effectively ruining the whole effect.

DOOM3, because of that, lacked the feeling of the old games. That "Nonstop running and shooting" that it had.

The only games that have had it since then were Serious Sam and Painkiller. To be honest, Painkiller is better then DOOM4 could ever hope to be. Give me a sequel to that game and I'll be excited.
