X3: Terran Conflict Patch

The EGOSOFT Website is now distributing a new patch for X3: Terran Conflict, updating the space combat sequel to version 1.3. They say: "The Update fixes many issues which have been bothering you as well as adding new features. We also listened to you and rebalanced the game accordingly. A big thank you to everyone who aided us in investigating some of these issues." The update includes new commands for controlling Freight Drones, an improved Shipyard trade menu, rebalanced mission enemies and rewards, bug fixes, and more. The patch is for the boxed version of the game, when the update for Steam is released, owners of that edition will receive it automatically upon login. The patch is available in the EGOSOFT Downloads Section and it is mirrored on AtomicGamer, FanGaming, FileFront, and Gamer's Hell.

It (the X series at least) fills a niche - people that want to run trade empires. I guess it's like EVE but with less risk of being blown to bits out of nowhere. I liked 2 and 3 for the capital ship fighting (it's fun to ride into a system with the meanest capital ship in the galaxy and smash things to bits) but so far they've been unable to hold my attention for too long. Carrier battles aren't nearly as fun as they could be. Even with X3's ability to launch multiple fighters at once, it still takes too long to clear the hangar, and even when you send 80 fighters against one transport some dumbass still gets destroyed, and finding the level 3-equipped fighters to replenish lost fighters is a pain in the ass, and improving them further is even more of a pain in the ass. User interface from hell.
Huh? I'm sorry, I was thinking about cake.
