Universal Combat Freeware

Universal Combat is now available as a freeware release, as promised a couple of weeks ago (story). Word from 3000AD is: "Once again, our freeware game is released with no advertising, no nag screens, no expiration date, nothing. Just the full (and patched) single player game as was commercially released in Feb 2004, but with fewer music tracks (the game FAQ shows how players can add their own MP3 tracks) and no multiplayer." The download is available on Atomic Gamer, AusGamers, ComputerGames.ro, FanGaming, FileFront, Gamer's Hell, and Strategy Informer.

hmm well Derek appears to have done one smart thing in his life. This thread has SO many replies it's just insane. He's little flame war is turning what should be at best a "etc." post into one of the biggest threads of the last 12 months. I would love to believe there really is a person anywhere in the world who stupid enough to believe his conduct in this thread were a good idea. Instead I honestly think that after the launch of BC3000AD Derek realised that bad publicity is better then none and this thread is just the latest crank of the free publicity wheel - much like the whole UC free tactic. Derek is one of five or six "game" developers I could name 24/7, drunk or sober. Not for good reasons obviously but the cunning bastard gets his name EVERYWHERE. Someone earlier compared him to the Uwe Boll of video games and that is just SO true. Motto? If you can't be good as your chosen profession then why not be try to make money by being as ridiculously bad as possible. I think he is actually beyond Uwe Boll's level and is getting to cult status of shittiness ala Ed Wood. I'm probably gonna blow his master plan here but it would not surprise me if he fakes his own death soon after the release of his magnus shitus which will afterwards be called the worst console game ever. After that he will once and for all secure his cult status and his memory will live on for years - whilst his sitting on a beach somewhere living off the royalties and sales of "I got my PhD with Derek" T-shirts and other merchandise.
