Out of the Blue

George Carlin has a joke about the guy who can't find his underwear, and decides this must be the work of a thief ("Somebody stole my underwear… This week's underwear!"). This is a cautionary tale about the likelihood of such a pointless theft, described in the bit as a "surgical strike." This reminds me not to jump to conclusions after noticing the caps are missing from the valve stems on our car. As one of those nuts who actually checks his tire pressure regularly (something I strongly recommend as an easy task with vast safety implications), I have a pretty set routine for removing and replacing the caps, so I would be surprised if I just lost them, though that repeated process certainly offers extra opportunities to have done so. Anyway, I'm not sure those caps actually do anything, but I guess I need to scrape up a dollar and buy a new set. Then I need to set out to investigate the possible crime.

18. Re: Another R.I.P. Jul 3, 2007, 12:05 complicity

every time I'd try and skip one a bunch of people would mail it in and say 'you never mentioned the death of so-and-so.'
I think maybe those people are hanging out on the wrong web board if they're waiting to see announcements of certain people dying.
So? Thoughts?
If it were me, and it's obviously not, I wouldn't do them at all as a regular feature. If I mentioned a death at all, it would be because it meant something to me and not just because someone submitted it. That almost cheapens it. There are plenty of other places to find out about celebrity (and not-so celebrity) deaths other than here, even if you're one of Batman's only two news sources.

A message of hope to those who choose to hear it,
