Out of the Blue

I am a lifelong James Bond fan, which comes from reading all the novels when younger, and of course the stylish early films in the series starring Sean Connery. The ensuing years have seen the franchise spin further out of control to the point where the preposterous plots and unbelievable stunts were more suited to a Saturday morning cartoon than a live movie, so it is probably needless to say that I am stirred, not shaken, by the idea that they are reinventing the franchise around Daniel Craig. There's a certain degree of irony that an attempt to return a more serious tone to the series is based on Casino Royale, which was previously used for the Bond spoof starring Peter Sellers, Woody Allen, et al ("Charles K. Feldman's Casino Royale") as well as a ridiculous earlier TV production where Bond is the CIA agent and Felix Leiter is his friend from British Intelligence. In a rare opportunity to get together with PapaBlue twice in one week, my step-dad and I are going to meet up today and catch a matinee.
