BF2142 Conflict

EA Suggests Removing Windows Security Update news on 1UP describes a conflict between the new BF2142 patch and a Windows XP security update, being careful to emphasize that the conflict lies in XP, rather than the game. The issue is summed up in the following quote in the patch notes: "Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running Battlefield 2142. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update."

I disagree, if they are misusing a feature / API or using it in an undocumented way then they are asking for trouble when it comes to patches and new SKU's. I have made this mistake / assumption when going from NT to 2000 they made a change and I took a dependancy / assumption on a specific way of using the API and a CONSTANT parameter. I later went back and read the actual document and lo and behold, it said it right there in plain text "DO NOT DEPEND UPON THIS PARAMETER VALUE IN FUTURE CHANGES". It pays to read the MSDN docs.

MS is not at fault, the developers are because they are using the system's features in a nasty way for their DRM or performance enhancements.

Now they got busted and are pointing fingers. Well they should point it at themselves.

It would be the same wheter it is Apple or QNX etc the same rule applies. If you are a developer and you have disregard for the documentation from the maker of the tools you use then you are in the wrong business. We all know DRM is nasty because there was no frameworks in place officially for it so they abused what was there.
