Out of the Blue

We're off to celebrate the sixth birthday of the younger Smurf today. As I mentioned last night, our gift plans were a little up-ended when we were told he may no longer remember how desperately he desired the pair of sneakers with the flashing lights we were to get him. The alternative that was suggested was a plant, which fails about every fun kid's gift litmus test I can conjure, at which point a skating-themed toy called Tech Dudes was proposed, so we've conjured up a gift certificate entitling him to a choice of the sneakers or some Tech Dudes. Funny thing is, we're going through all this effort fairly conscious that it's unnecessary, years from now he probably wouldn't be able to recall which gift he got, even if it was the plant. Oh well, the party involves riding a steroidal variant on New York's classic Circle Line called The Beast, which sounds memorable enough to make an occasion of it. Apparently not all adults were willing to sign on for this, but naturally MrsBlue and I are not planning on missing that.

Sorry Blue, but the smurf would remember the plant gift until the day he passes away and it would be retold at every family gathering you are going attend over the next zillion years. It would be your legacy !"Remember when cheap ol' Uncle Blue gave a plant for a birthday present" LOL
