80 laid off at Kirkland video-game maker after Sony deal (thanks powermarc)
is a report that Monolith has announced plans to lay off 80 employees out of a
workforce of 200, although at least 25 of those being laid off are those being
offered jobs at nearby Sony Online Entertainment (story) after
the sale of The Matrix Online (story). The story states that
while development continues on their upcoming horror/shooter F.E.A.R. and their
console project Condemned: Criminal Origins, Monolith is exiting the Massively
Multiplayer business, and is eliminating positions associated with that. The
article also states that the DC Comics-based MMO that was unveiled as a new SOE
project at the time of the sale of The Matrix Online was actually already in
development at Monolith, something that was not previously revealed.
