UT2003 & C&C Generals "Indexed"

German gaming site GameStar.de sends word that Unreal Tournament 2003 and Command & Conquer: Generals have each been placed on Germany's "index" of games that cannot be sold to minors or even publicly advertised or displayed in that country. At this point it is not clear whether the version of UT2003 placed on the index is the original game, or the updated version that Epic's Steven Polge recently mentioned was in the works to avoid just this eventuality (story). Update: German site GamesWeb sends word that the indexing of C&C Generals is still considered temporary at this point, and a final determination of this game's fate in Germany is yet to be handed down.

Von Helmet, the whole point is that its plain stupid to index these games. I thought that the whole point of living in a democracy is that the people can make the choice if they want to play a videogame or not. Hell, isn't that what age clasification is for ? C'mon, its not even like these games contain anything specifically offensive is it ? I could understand if it was a Nazi FPS or something with genuine offensive content, but to ban these two games just doesn't make sense.

As for books vs games, the comparison is just. You could argue that both are worthy of indexing. Books more so as they rely on the imagination - which is photorealistic, over some badly animated sprites on a battlefield Same goes for films (horror films etc, even non R films can be close to the mark)

I don't pray on anybodys little thoughts Von Helmet, I stated my opinion just as you stated yours. As for the British Nationalist Party, never heard of 'em ?

48 - I don't have a crap opinion of your country. As I said I think *they*, the lawmakers are fuckin stupid.

At the end of the day a game, music, book, film isn't going to influence anyone - that's just a bullsh*t excuse for sick individuals to use.
