It didn't strike me at the time, but now that it's actually Columbus Day, I am
puzzled at why the Columbus Day-themed episode of The Sopranos aired early,
rather than last night. I'm not sure if this is one of those holidays that will
make for a slow news day, or not, as I know many offices do not close for the
occasion (I know MrsBlue is working today, for instance), but things look pretty quiet so far.
A fellow dog-owner gave us one of the smartest tips we could receive when we first got a puppy, telling us that every dollar we spent on doggie toys would be repaid a hundred times over in undamaged furniture. Yesterday we picked up a dog toy that is a little gorilla that does not offer the usual squeaker, but rather, through the miracle of electronics, actually gives off a lengthy ape-style squeal when squeezed. Put this under the heading of things that seemed like a good idea at first, but this has quickly become like the episode of I Love Lucy (I know... soon I'm going to be making pop culture references to Charlie Chaplin and Lionel Barrymore) where they got little Ricky a drum ("Fred. Fred. Fred, Fred, Fred!"). I don't know what it will save us in furniture costs, but this one also threatens to cost us a hundred times its value in aspirin. R.I.P.: Historian Stephen Ambrose dies at 66 of cancer. Thanks Bronco.
