I'm not 100% sure on this, as I haven't personally used the CD, but as a Gentoo user and reading what's said about it, I'd guess you'd have to actually install Gentoo in order to patch UT2k3, which is a hellishly slow process. It's well worth it though, and the documentation is outstandingly thorough. By all means prove me wrong though - I'm not saying I'm right!
