Out of the Blue

Report: Dogs are smarter than people think (thanks Bodi Freeman) is a CNN Science article citing a university study supporting the idea that pups are brainier than most think (more on this is in New Scientist, thanks Anvil). I assume this means that the "most" in this case are not actually dog owners, I don't know many dog owners that would find this surprising. Actually, I don't know anyone who would find this part surprising: "Dogs usually use high-pitched single barks when they are separated from their owners and a lower, harsher superbark when strangers approach or the doorbell rings, according to Sophia Yin, an animal behaviorist at the university." Is this actually a revelation? Maybe I need to get in on some of the research study gravy train, I have loads of insights like that to share.

Betcha you thought I was going to write about you-know-who (woof)!

6. Dogs smart? Aug 1, 2002, 11:59 anon@216.23
Yes, and they also eat their own crap, lick themselves, and roll around on dead things.

Saying "dogs are smarter than we thought" may be accurate, but that's not saying much to begin with.
