Unreal 2 Engine Rainbow Six III?

Following their previous speculative story earlier today, Ghost Recon Retreat has another blurb up about the possible future of the Rainbow Six series. The latest scoop, citing an article in Xbox magazine, says the Xbox version of the game will be powered by the Unreal II engine, leading to speculation that the PC version will as well. Neither a PC nor an Xbox version of Rainbow Six III has actually been officially announced.

8. U2/UW/U Engine Feb 27, 2002, 17:59 RegularX
The press, Epic and Infogrames have done a simply stellar job of confusing just about everyone as to the name of their engine. The engine used in all Unreal-based games since Unreal I is the "Unreal Engine". Unreal II, Unreal Championship, Unreal Tournament 2, Deus Ex 2, etc, are using a build of that engine. The name "Unreal Warfare Engine" comes from an internal distinction between the builds which has tossed around by Epic and the press. Quoting from Tetris L's excellent U2 FAQ:

Builts 0xx-3xx are the classic Unreal engine; builts 4xx-5xx are the "Tournament" engine, builts 6xx-7xx are the "Warfare" engine. The latest built available to licensees is 854. For both the Tournament and the Warfare engine at least the engine core code has been completely re-written, based on the experience with previous versions.

So take "Unreal 2 Engine" to mean "latest Unreal Engine". Like someone said, DE has already done the porting of this to the XBox with Unreal Championship. It's also, reportedly, being ported to the GameCube by Level2 (think that's the name), same guys who ported UT over DreamCast.

This rumor has some strength to it. It makes a certain amount of sense and is extremely feasible.
