My bro and I got to do some hard labor in the heat yesterday, as a tree had fallen on our dad's old country house, and a drainage ditch needed clearing so it could resume its role protecting the house. Then last night MrsBlue and I finally followed through on our plan to watch the 1967 version of Casino Royale, a Peter Sellers/Woody Allen spoof of the spy genre. I saw this years ago, but remembered few details amid the impression it was one of those "madcap" comedies that they made lots of in the 1960s. In the end, if I had to do one or the other again, I think I would rather repeat the drive to the country and do all the climbing, chain-sawing, log hauling and leaf-clearing in the hot sun than sit in the air conditioning and watch that movie again. Even with the whole "madcap" thing, never have I seen a more blatant disregard for storytelling in a movie, and reading the Wikipedia article on why it turned out like it makes me think someone needs to make a movie about the making of this movie.
