Origin Update Adds Achievement Tracking

Origin News announces a new beta version of the Windows Origin client should now be available, with the OS X beta expected today (thanks VG247). They say this will roll out to the rest of the Origin "community" in the weeks to come, but those who want it now can still opt-in to the beta. Word is this adds streaming support, 64-bit enhancements, and achievement tracking:

After downloading this update, you'll notice that we've revamped the look and feel of the Application Settings menu. For PC users, if you've been broadcasting your gameplay, you'll appreciate the new ability to auto-archive your broadcasts. For you power gamers with muscular 64-bit systems on either PC or Mac, the new multilauncher will give you additional options for taking advantage of your hardware when starting up supported games. Finally, you can now keep track of all the achievements you've completed in Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, and Dead Space 3 on your Origin profile page. Start playing those games after updating Origin, and watch your Origin Point total (displayed underneath your name) increase by completing their achievements.

Funny, I haven't bought a Steamworks game knowingly in almost 2 years.

My recent Origin purchases should not count, as upon installation I was prompted to enter a Steamworks key, much to my surprise and disgust. You see half of Origins catalog are actual Steamworks games with no indication of the Steamworks requirement on the product page. =/

Steamworks has been integrated into almost all AAA titles recently released and in the foreseeable future by almost all publishers. Its client has become a bloated piece of software consuming several hundred megabytes of system RAM and slow to respond.

Steam was once a simple server browser that one needed for Counter-Strike, Team Fortress Classic and Half-Life. PC gamers did not need it to install and play a game by a different publisher. Steamworks now it is being forced down our throats by publishers, forced into activation on its service, forced to come between the user and his/her purchased subscribed game, forced to belong to a subscription service and to accept its user agreement or be forcefully locked out of previously purchased subscribed games on its service.

Good. Everything was a total clusterfuck before, I'm pretty happy with our new overlords.
