It is a big change for them and it could kill them - but doing nothing will definitely kill them eventually.
Well, developing HBOgo allows them to work out the kinks in the software and distribution, while still having gobs of income from cable. And they won't anger their cable masters until they start to take a big hit in revenue and it makes sense for them to roll it out nation/worldwide. They'll continue to run limited trials and assess, but it will probably be another 5-10 years before we see this. |
