A new trailer from the Kickstarter Page for Elite: Dangerous offers a further look at gameplay footage from the upcoming space combat revival that Frontier Developments is seeking to fund. Word is: "Work-in-progress footage of live multiplayer gameplay in Elite: Dangerous showing a convoy escort battle, and discussion of the various roles players can take." Why would PC gamers want to play with gamepads? We'd just play in on consoles in that case. We're not console gamers. So no soup for them. Over half way into their 2 months KS - ridiculous in the first place - and just over half the funds? Noooooope. It's not going to happen.
Not all PC gamers have flight sticks, especially in an age where 90% of games only support xInput devices and the 360 pad is the only xInput device out there. As long as they provide DirectInput support as well as xInput, I don't see the issue.
As for the Kickstarter, I'd fund it if they offered a full SP campaign ala Star Citizen. I don't have much interest in multiplayer games.
