There are bits of code in Valve's Source Filmmaker suggesting plans are in place for a next version of Valve's Source engine. Here's an example: ""Return an str with the current engine version. If key doesn't doesn't [sic] exist, assume 'Source', otherwise invalid -- assume next-gen 'Source 2'." Thanks Valvetime.net via Eurogamer.

Yeah, the low poly worlds are starting to look bad, but that engine lasted a very long time with little up-keep due to the textures and animations.
It was a fairly spectacular engine for anyone that wanted to run well on a very wide range of PCs. That's common now, but wasn't back in 2004. Fair enough point on facial animations, I dunno I always kinda found the physics to feel really floaty and gimicky but maybe that's just me. Because it's based on Quake and Quake 2(Quake 2 was super floaty). Doesn't bother me at all. I disable bob anyways. |
