I think that's how mine died too...and like you I didn't go non lethal until post augmentation and at that point (when I realized "no kills" included the very beginning) I wasn't starting over.
I think the way the level was designed, if you want to be 100% non-lethal, you're supposed to let Malik die. It's kind of like the dilemma Batman was faced with at the end of The Dark Knight, except in DX3 the choice wasn't between two people, it was between killing or letting someone die. Unfortunately, the interesting moral choices in the game were neutered by being forced into boss fights where you have to kill every single boss to proceed. |
