38 Studios Closed?

38 Studios laid off its entire workforce according to an unconfirmed report on WPRI.com where they have an email purportedly sent to the company's staff, which they say consisted of 379 employees a of March 15. The Verge adds they've been informed by "a source familiar with the company" that 38 Studios also closed both its Rhode Island headquarters and its subsidiary studio Big Huge Games (thanks nin). They also note there is a semi-confirmation of this in a tweet from Colin Campbell, lead world designer at Big Huge Games: "Big Huge Games was home for my wife and me for our adult lives so far. I'll miss it terribly, but so proud. Good night and good luck." The Verge also quotes Governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee attributing the closure to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, saying the RPG "failed." They note that the game sold approximately 1.2 million copies in 90 days and Chafee says experts told him it needed to sell three million copies to break even. In 2010 Rhode Island loaned 38 Studios $75 million.

Financial troubles at the developer founded by former major league baseball pitcher Curt Schilling surfaced less than two weeks ago, but after some drama involving a bounced loan payment check and allegations of a missed payroll, things seemed to be on the rise, with word that the loan payment cleared and that the company's MMORPG codenamed Project Copernicus was expected in a year. In an interesting side note, Rock, Paper, Shotgun points out the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation has posted 38 Studios Public Documents with all the details on its financial dealing with the company.

From your link, yep lets take that extra tax money that the job creators give us, and rather than pay off some debt with it, HEY lets give out more welfare handouts to those that take the most from the system and don't pay a god damn thing into it. BRILLIANT!!

That's not what she's saying. Social services goes far beyond that. And if you recall it was Clinton who made welfare reform a reality. What about all the corporate and military welfare? Why do they get a pass over people who can barely keep a roof over their heads?

Face it cutter, you liberals love to spend other people's money, with zero end in sight.

So I guess the several billion dollars a year in tax subsidies that someone like Exxon gets every year - in spite of record profits - doesn't count, huh? You'd rather have desperate people roaming the streets committing crimes to stay alive? Maybe increasing the already overburdened prison system - of which America has more prisoners both by number and per capita than any other place in the world? Ever heard of the prison-industrial complex? It's the new indentured servitude. You're really cool with that? Hell, I mean everyone wants drugs but the system keeps it illegal? Whatever happened to the market there?

The US has a progressive tax system, the top 1% already pay the most. Unless you want to make a flat rate where everyone pays the same percentage. Wouldn't that be more fair? Everyone pays the same amount in.

No, they don't. And that's the point. Buffet - as an example - made several hundred million a few years ago only paid 17% tax on it whereaas his 100k a year secretary paid 54%. And that's when he started publically speaking out that things were very wrong.

Imagine a flat tax without loopholes where everyone paid 10%. There'd be more than enough to go around.

Socialism doesn't work, it's failed time and time and time and time again and you liberals just can't let it go. Look at Greece, then take a look at where France is headed. FFS people use some god damn logic.

But it does! Just look at places like all the nordic countries where people have a flat tax and criminals fines and such are actually based on on progressive income. You might get a ticket for $100 for speeding which means nothing to someone with huge bank. So that's why they get fined a $1000. Fair means across the board for everyone. And places like Greece are failing because of the corruption of the elites. Look at the standard of living index globally. All these socialist countries are in the top 10, and they're not going broke.

What the hell are you arguing against? A better world for everyone to live in? Cleaner, healthier, fairer, etc? I am using logic. My arguments are posited on verifiable, actual examples. All you're doing it toeing the party line rehashing the same old bullshit that got us into this mess in the first place. Why are you so opposed to working people getting a fair shake? Seriously?! You're an apologist for the blue class. That somehow we're lesser and deserve to be treated like shit. Is that what you want? A new aristocracy? perhaps so that you may have the chance to get up there one day yourself and lord yourself over the small people who don't matter?

America was founded...founded...on the idea of a fair shake. A government of the people, for the people, and by the people, remember that? Otherwise they would have just rolled over and kissed the King's ass and we'd all still be colonies. What the hell do you think so many people have fought and died for the world over for a better life for themselves and family and friends? What the hell do you want? Why is it so hard for you to compromise?
