38 Studios Closed?

38 Studios laid off its entire workforce according to an unconfirmed report on WPRI.com where they have an email purportedly sent to the company's staff, which they say consisted of 379 employees a of March 15. The Verge adds they've been informed by "a source familiar with the company" that 38 Studios also closed both its Rhode Island headquarters and its subsidiary studio Big Huge Games (thanks nin). They also note there is a semi-confirmation of this in a tweet from Colin Campbell, lead world designer at Big Huge Games: "Big Huge Games was home for my wife and me for our adult lives so far. I'll miss it terribly, but so proud. Good night and good luck." The Verge also quotes Governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee attributing the closure to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, saying the RPG "failed." They note that the game sold approximately 1.2 million copies in 90 days and Chafee says experts told him it needed to sell three million copies to break even. In 2010 Rhode Island loaned 38 Studios $75 million.

Financial troubles at the developer founded by former major league baseball pitcher Curt Schilling surfaced less than two weeks ago, but after some drama involving a bounced loan payment check and allegations of a missed payroll, things seemed to be on the rise, with word that the loan payment cleared and that the company's MMORPG codenamed Project Copernicus was expected in a year. In an interesting side note, Rock, Paper, Shotgun points out the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation has posted 38 Studios Public Documents with all the details on its financial dealing with the company.

Obama has failed as a president. As badly as Bush? Not even close. He ineherited the worst all-around mess of any president in history. He had a mandate to lead and he failed. However there's no winning with the extreme-right because they'll never let the facts stand in the way of what they believe. Obnoxious, ignorant, and LOUD describes them best. Regardless of any of his shortcomings it's not his fault that big-business headed by republicans refuse to create decent paying jobs at home. If he was to force them then the right-wing would be screaming about how this godless commie liberal hates the free-market. He could walk on water and they'd scream about how he's too good to get his feet wet. There's just no winning with them at all.

Personally, I don't think that America will last, or most other major nations for that matter. The divide between left, right, and centrist just seems to be getting more entrenched and divisive all the time. America, Canada, France, etc. are all seeing virtual 50% splits down the middle politically speaking and any form of real bi-partisanship seems all but impossible now. If that's really the case then it's for the best if we split up. Go back to the city-state model or a loose confedation of states/provinces.

Cutter, I suppose it's not Obama's fault that he's failed to pass a budget since coming into office either right? Is that Bush's fault too? I am so sick and tired of year in and year out of this guys first term, left leaning people's answer to every mistake Obama makes is still "Bush's fault"

When does it become Obama's fault that he's failed as hard as Bush? And trust me, I didn't like Junior either one bit.

You folks ignore that the dems had control of both the house and senate at the end of Bush's term, you guys ignore the Dems were in total power when Obama took office and still couldn't pass a budget.

The GOP isn't any better, this I agree with you all on 1000 fold. The only difference being the GOP tends to not resort to class warfare, or deflect attention with fake occupy movements left and right either. Or indoctrinate college kids, and really middle school kids.

I work in the IT field in the public sector and spend a majority of my time in the town I work in school system, some of the shit these liberal teachers are teaching this kids is absolutely mind blowing. Not to mention they're so focused on garbage like anti bullying and codling little Johnny that little Johnny barely knows how to read or write. It's sickening.

At the end of the day both parties are driving us off the cliff, Liberals just have the peddle to the damn floor board.
