Had to leave Friday morning before the beta went live, and didn't get home until 11PM Sunday night, so I only got about 3 hours to play around with the beta. Played around with a Necromancer, since that was my favorite class from Guild Wars. I'm not going to touch on the bugs since it's clearly early beta. I would sincerely hope that they don't try to ship the game with something as stupid as party chat not working.

I'd have to agree with Alamar, the "active" combat isn't very active. They just took the classic style MMORPG combat and added some dodge buttons in the game. With the Necromancer, being a ranged class with a "short" range (depends on the weapon you're using, but the maximum range I had was 900 with a mace/rod/wand type thing) dodging didn't help very much to avoid damage, and my blood fiend which I assumed was supposed to keep me alive didn't help in that regard either. Though I do enjoy a challenge, so I'm not that turned off by it.

The quests are still standard "Kill X" "Collect Y" quests, but they almost always culminate in some kind of boss fight, which at least keeps it a little fresh. It gives some kind of coherence to the quest progression; I had always figured that if I stole the Grawl's food, they might just get angry and try to take it back. Well in GW2 they do try to take it back.

The skill/weapon system is interesting, but it will take more time playing before I can form a solid opinion on it. My first impression was that it will take some work to try and level up all of the different skill sets with different weapons, and it will be imperative that players do it early on so that at higher levels they're not just stuck with an auto-attack for long sessions.

Unfortunately that is about as far as I got in my short 3 hours before the beta went down. Hopefully ANet listens to testers and is quick with the tweaks, but I have no doubt it will turn out to be a great MMO.
