IMHO its somewhat good to drive initial sales into a new console, because people are happy their last gen games are still playable on it. But after a bit, everyone who cared about that feature has one already, and the new people to it don't have any old games anyway. For Sony, you can still buy the PS2 with no problem, so BC isn't a biiig issue, except for people that wanted the games upscaled. For the XBOX, though, MS stopped producing them *immediately* when the 360 was released. |
