Wired.com - Videogames Can't Afford to Cost This Much. Thanks nin.
I also seem to remember something about a global financial crisis and a deep recession that caused consumers of everything from homes to toothbrushes to stop spending so much money at retail. Experts still disagree on what caused the meltdown: Too much government meddling in markets? Fat-cat Wall Street bankers? I canít be sure, but at this point I feel like Richard Browne would blame it on used videogames.

Heck even the "new" games at gamestop are unboxed for you. This has ALWAYS annoyed me to no end... if you sell used copies of the game, once the case is cracked it's used. Otherwise you have to allow me to return the game as "new" once the box is opened.

That's the last copy of the new game and they're supposed to inform you about it, no discount though. And you can return a "new" game for the "new" price as long as you have the receipt and a valid reason for return. A valid reason is almost never, "because I didn't like it". But you can easily get away with "it was the wrong game" or "it's not age appropriate" etc.

Eh they did that with most new copies at the local ones I used buy stuff from. What they are supposed to do and what they actually do are two different things. I remember when I went to buy a copy of Fable 2 awhile back they gave me a preowned copy so I asked for new and they handed me one already open again. I had to specifically ask for a plastic shrink wrapped copy to get one, it was an absurd experience. They never really took returns either, I watched a mother argue with a clerk for 10 minutes before I finally piped up and said hey just give her a return already man and even then he had to get a manager over to process it.

Maybe all of that stuff has changed or is just anecdotal experiences but its pretty common scuttlebutt on the internet.

Yeah I have to keep reminding myself that my experiences are from 10 years ago but they sound about the same still. Also if people complain about the opened "new" copy we would offer to shrink wrap it in the back for them... I wonder if that's what happened with yours and they just didn't tell you
