Tropico 4 Expands in March

Kalypso announces Tropico 4: Modern Times, an upcoming expansion for Tropico 4, the island dictator simulation. This is expected in March, and will add a number of modern problems to the game: "The times are changing and the island nation of Tropico is evolving. The Internet, a New World Order, terrorists, global financial markets and space exploration are on the rise and pose new challenges to El Presidente and his regime in Tropico 4: Modern Times." Here's a trailer, and here's a feature list:

  • Make Tropico fit for the 21st century: Evolve the island from the Cold War era to modern times and even into the future
  • 30 new buildings become available as time progresses, including condos, skyscrapers, organic ranches and biofarms. Replace obsolete buildings with these modern and inspiring designs.
  • Upgrade old buildings to new variants – modernized apartment buildings, banks, museums and much more
  • 10 new edicts allow even more control over your citizens’ lives. Block or limit citizens’ Internet use, create a police state or be a “good guy” and launch the Festival of Love edict.
  • New single player campaign comprised of 12 comprehensive scenario missions. Protect Tropico from unseen and sinister forces.

Yeah... Control freaks apply. Dicatorship is what this game is about. Work for me pigs!

Also if it was a 'communism' simulation you wouldn't be the dictator, there wouldn't be one. In communism everything is owned and decided by the people as a whole because there are no leaders since everyone is on 'equal footing'.

Since everything is owned and controlled by the state it falls more in line with socialism. Where the state controls and regulates everything and you no longer have a choice. Not much difference from a dictatorship in actual practice really... one is for one a-hole and the other is for a group of a-holes.

This is getting dangerously off-topic, but socialism isn't where the state controls everything and you have no choice. That's communism. Real communism, you described the communist ideal but the reality is people like Stalin, Mao or Kim Il-Sung. Their regimes also had private enterprise to a small extent, more than Tropico has even playing as capitalist as possible.

Socialism is a large safety net in terms of social security, employee rights and medical care. This does mean a large amount of state control and regulation, but the state doesn't "control and regulate everything".
