Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Using Steamworks

Valve announces that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be available on Steam upon its November 8th release, and that Activision's upcoming military first-person shooter will make use of Steamworks for automatic patches, achievements, and more. Here's word:

The PC version of the product will be powered with Steamworks for both the digital and tangible versions of the game and, as with all Steamworks titles, offline play will also be supported along with Auto-Updating, Achievements, and more. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also support dedicated servers on day 1.

The Origin client requires manually updating; starts as an active window (rather than staying hidden like Steam); only supports EA games (I don't want a different service for each publisher); has significantly overpriced games (more so than Steam); doesn't support custom categories; it's not clear how game patches are handled; it still requires you to download and install the EADM; and downloads installers which you must then install (requires a lot more space and is more time consuming), rather than downloading the game files like Steam. Most importantly I started using Steam to get away from game installers, which I absolutely detest - some are full screen, some have music, some grind your computer to a halt, some are overly complicated.

To be honest it's not that different to when Steam first started up, though the expected standard has raised considerably. Origin is late to the game and offers a more expensive and weaker service. I will avoid it like the plague until it can offer me a BETTER service, as I trust Steam (which has been running for years) versus EA, who sometimes even shut down active online games with 18 months of release. Steam is far from perfect but Origin is worse.
