"I play their games, and they make great games, but we are too far from each other. They can make their games, and I’ll buy them. We’ll make ours, and they can buy them. Not the property – that’s ours. But they can play it like everyone else." -- Minecraft creator Notch on EA's interest in acquiring Mojang.

"Notch, join us! We'll pay you like 200 million bucks, and you'll retain all freedom to do whatever you want, and to make the games you want to make, for the platforms that only you want, and the way you want them to, and we'll never interfere and...
"Okay, I can see don't believe me. Shit. That idiot from Bioware swallowed that whole fairy tale hook, line and sinker. Yeah, the truth is we'd delay your next game by a year so we can make shitty console versions of it, then we'll force you to cut half your content so we can sell it as DLC, we're going to make you shit out a game every year, oh, AND you'll only get to make sequels to the properties that look like they might compete with Call of Duty or ones we can squeeze for a name recognition dollar. In short, you'll never again make something that you really love.
"Sounds great, right? Notch? Notch?? Where are you going? NOTCH?!"

Amen to that. Sounds like the line Kotick fed to Blizzard. And they bought it, too. Except for the whole thing where Blizzard was sold to Activision by Vivendi right? |
