There's a user-created poll on the EA Forums reflecting unhappiness at plans to offer exclusive weapons as preorder bonuses for Battlefield 3, fearing the impact this will have on game balance in the upcoming military shooter sequel. As of this writing 94% of respondents say these exclusives are a bad idea, compared with 3% who feel it's a good idea. As a result, this post on reddit is attempting to coordinate a boycott to protest this.

Prez wrote on Jun 13, 2011, 13:08: I'm baffled by the "pre-order bonus" concept, regardless of which game uses it. To me, the best pre-order bonus would be to let those who pre-order play a bit earlier. Other than that, everyone should have equal access to everything. It started out as a method for retailers to compete without gutting each other on prices. Now publishers are taking it to the next level with crap like "you can only get X items from preorders and you cant preorder anywhere but Origin". They want that 20% cut that Steam takes but they don't really understand how Steam got to that position where gamers desire it so much. Instead of building a competitive product and competing on price they do dumb stuff like what they tried with The Sims 3.
From what I read it was 1 gun and 2 types of accessories for other guns. The shotgun thing was just an early unlock.
This is one retailer. There are dozens of retailers that will want this and get it. Walmart will get something, gamestop will get something, amazon will get something, target, best buy, kmart, do I need to keep going? Try a dozen different weapons and accessories. Actually I believe the physical warfare pack will be offered by most brick and mortars but regardless we'll have to wait and see. |
