I can't believe anyone would say Dragon Age was not complex or lacked depth...
Each character gets their own stat tracking and skill choices right down to picking how much goes into strength vs do I want to specialize in two handed weapons, dual wield, do I want to be a ranged archer, a mage, do I want to use poison and set traps...
When you're in the game you can jump between each member of your party and play them exactly as you play yourself. I got tired of being an archer after the first few hours and decided to go control the 2 handed weapon guy. Then I wanted to be a mage for a few battles so I used her. I could even be a god damn attack dog. And the attack dog has slots to equip things that are unique to his class. He even has crunchy bones and such that are unique to his class rather than using the same health potions that other guys use.
Then there is the conversational interface for talking where there is a ton of dialogue that just serves no purpose but to add to the atmosphere, they will go on for fucking ever about random stuff, and not just the main quest ppl, u stop and talk to guy on the side of the road and you'll probably find yourself talking to him for 10 minutes. (ok maybe not 10, but a lot more than you'd expect) Most of this you can simply skip past but it's jaw dropping how much content is there if you want to keep digging.
And lacking depth!? Controlling 4 people gives you literally dozens of attacks to use, different attack modes, some attacks cause friendly fire damage and need to be used with caution, others are AoE spells that wreck enemies.
The enemy AI has put up a decent fight on normal and there have been a few boss battles I moved it down to casual because trying it for the 10th time was not adding to the fun of the game.
My mage can be a shape shifter and turn into a giant spider and I believe I can develop this skill and find other creatures and I simply haven't used it. I have specialties on my archer that I haven't picked up that can take me in different directions. As a rogue I can apparently fulfill a totally different role with dual weapons and daggers and shit and run around back stabbing fools.
How in the hell does anyone think this game isn't complex or lacks depth!?
I hope they make more games like Dragon Age: Origins. I like it and I hope more developers spend the time and energy to build such a complicated game. |
