Ships Ahoy - Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam is now available for Windows, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3, offering a Vietnam War expansion for DICE's military shooter sequel. The PC version is currently available through the EA Store and Steam, and next week on December 22 it will also become available at select retailers as well as other digital distributors. The Battlefield Blog offers the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam Launch Trailer, and here's word on what to expect from the add-on:

In Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, gamers will find themselves in an entirely new theatre of war, fighting as either the U.S. Marines or North Vietnamese Army (NVA). The punishing jungles of Vietnam are brought dramatically back to life via the award-winning Frostbite™ engine, where players can take advantage of Battlefield’s classic sandbox environments in five all-new multiplayer maps using powerful air invasions or close-quarter guerrilla tactics.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam takes all of the intensity, action and addictive gameplay of the multi-million selling Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and ups the ante with new weapons, vehicles, achievements and trophies. Featuring five all-new maps playable in four different modes including Conquest, Rush, Squad Deathmatch and Squad Rush, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam will continue to deliver exceedingly intense vehicular warfare, destruction and squad play.

The fifth map, Operation Hastings, will be unlocked as part of a worldwide community challenge, where players will work together to reach 69 million team actions on each respective community – Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC. The challenge begins on December 22.

So how does this integrate, gameplay-wise, with BC2? Do you have choose to launch the original OR this with separate icons and never shall they mingle, or does the Vietnam stuff get "mixed in" as you're playing BC2 online? Hope that makes sense...

The content is included in the last patch for BC2, you're purchasing an unlock code that you use inside BC2 to "unlock" it. You don't start over with a new rank, that carries over from BC2 and your config settings. The content isn't mixed with existing BC2 servers so when you're playing Vietnam you don't switch to BC2 on map rotation, they did this for people who didn't purchase the DLC pack so they wouldn't get kicked etc.

If you have the Steam version of BC2 then you need to get the DLC from Steam, retail copies can purchase from EA's online store or Direct 2 Drive.

It's like playing a "total conversion" of Bad Company 2 with Vietnam era assets.

So...is this going to be a better gameplay experience than the original Battlefield Vietnam?

Perhaps more to the point, is this going to support cooperative/solo offline or LAN play with bots, the thing that made the original Battlefield 1942 (and Desert Combat/DCX) such a joy for so many years, or has Dice solidly given up on us antisocial losers who prefer to have one human per side and a whole bunch of bots filling out the roster?

How about a campaign mode, with the differences between Major Victory and Major Defeat carrying over to how well your side is doing between various maps?

It's a $15 mini DLC 5 map Vietnam themed expansion to Bad Company 2.

So the answer to all your questions is no. I haven't LAN gamed since the late 90's, do people really still do that?
