Feel free to post "reliable" information on worldwide and regional sales, rather than just contradict a websites publishing with nothing to back it up. I'm not saying that you are wrong, but you've provided no actual facts to back it up, just your opinion.

The snippiness aside, did you read how VGChartz comes up with its numbers? They have unnamed "retail partners" who they refuse to quantify and "track" units with estimation and "sales trending". Don't take my word for it, it's on their own website. You can see them adjust numbers when NPD lands by the way. There's a reason that no one posts "reliable" worldwide sales, its impossible to track accurately.

I don't know why you would even cite them in this topic anyways given that they usually inflate 360 statistics far too high. Also, a "websites publishing", I mean.. really? Far be it for anyone to question something published on the web! Like these posts for example.

For someone that is generally extremely annoying at how untrustworthy they are when it comes to the transparency of corporations...thinking that Microsoft wouldn't pad their sales numbers by counting replacement units is rather naive.

I find it amusing you want people to give you things and demand proof while simultaneously calling them names or berating them. Your distasteful immaturity aside, all manufacturers pad their numbers. They do this in a few different ways but the easiest method to see it in action is that they will change how they qualify unit sales in a given quarter. For example before the Slim dropped, Sony qualified unit sales for the PS3 together with the PS2. Microsoft grouped the Zune and the Xbox 360 into the same product divisional groups.

All it takes is an invoice for transfer from one part of the company to the replacement centre for those units, for it to show up as units sold on the books. And if you read what I said, I stated it as a question. As in I don't know if they do or do not, but I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

Repaired units are not sold units, that goes into an entirely separate account on Microsoft's financial statements which are publicly readable. Sony doesn't do that either. That's fraud by the way, so I doubt any individual manufacturer is going to be "making up invoices" on a large enough scale to matter in the context of this discussion. Most of the big name retailers are publicly held and so if MS or Sony invented 5 million units then it would become apparent pretty quickly to shareholders.

What they actually do is shift the goalposts. Suddenly units manufactured become units sold or they group up multiple products together in a single division. All companies do this, in fact all of them have even done it in the past two years when they've had bad quarters. As an example Sony even claimed they had 35 million PSN users. That's all fine and good until their metric for coming up with that figure came together - total forum accounts. The things that are automatically created by forum users, PSP owners and so on. Microsoft also frequently comes up with silly statements that include Silver and Gold accounts together and so on. Thats without going into how many times each of them has tried to make their struggling unit sales appear better in bad quarters.

Anyways I've given you way more than you deserve for that bullshit reply so I'm off to play games while you get all rarrr angry and whatnot.
