Never taken a day off work to play a game on release, but I may consider using a days leave on the release of portal 2. Maybe only if my local games emporium (yes I said emporium) has a midnight release. Funny story.
I have only been to one midnight release for a game that was COD world @ war, a spur of the moment thing as I never even knew midnight releases took place at all. Any hoo its a warm night & Im standing in line outside the shop, people are nice & everyone is excited, but not I realise for COD ..... nooooooo nooooo nooooo it turns out its a double release & the majority of people there, and I mean everyone bar me was anticipating the WOW expansion. Now having always been of the FPS persuasion this was a strange, strange experience, geek positively poured off of these kids like the greasy film coating their pasty skin. Im certain they would not have been standing there had it been a sunny day. The conversations all around me were in WOW speak, excited tales of quests done and quests to do and fu&^%$ing potion this & slaying that, constantly one upping each other on lands visited & the sheer hours apon hours spent getting there like they had walked it themselves. Anyway the doors open & things get moving, the kid in front of me looks like a white Eurkel & hes getting excited, hes constantly feeling up his arms like his checking both are still there. Twitching & itching moving all the time, he just can't take in that he will have the promised land in 20 minutes. We move slowly up to inside the doors & his dance shoots up a notch, I start smiling in an effort to not LOL, eventually theres just one person in front dealing with their transactions & Im starting to root for Eurkel. Hes so excited & Im happy for him, hes obviously been hanging out for this moment so good for him. Just as Im thinking this to myself & insight of his real life quests goal Eurkel goes down big time, like a Jap thats been shredded by a thompson machine gun right in the kisser. The nerd in all his excitement has brought on the mother of all bleeding noses & hes clutching his face in disbelief all the time staring at the stacked copies of WOW the blood is pissing everywhere. It takes a few seconds to realise whats happened & people quickly move, a woman leaps the counter and is on him like a medic from Team fortress 2 as if this was expected. She leads him away from his quests reward copyless, broken & with a towel over his head. |
