MMO Weekly: The Cost Of WoW on IncGamers has a hardcore World of Warcraft player's accounting of his expenditures over the years Blizzard's MMORPG. Now understand this is an extreme case involving a collector's edition, a pair of accounts for him and his wife to play, trips to BlizzCon, and even $600.00 for BlizzCon chotchkies like shirts and plush Murlocs, but the startling total at the end inspires the author himself to preemptively joke he has no life.

I spend more then $1000 a year going out and drinking with friends, what's the difference between that and spending that much on a different hobby you enjoy with your friend....well besides the fact that his liver is in better condition. Both seem unhealthy. Better to invest in a hobby that enhances your health such as bicycling, surfing, skate-boarding, or if you want to save money just swim at the beach/lake or take walks at the park. A good amount of sunlight and movement are essential to physical and psychological health. Saving money is also very important today. It surprises me these people would spend so much with the economy being so bad right now. Save, save, save folks!
