I love how Gabe Newell flip flops on platforms. Originally, he hated the 360 because not every model came with a hard disk, now he thinks highly of it because Orange Box did decently on it. He hated the PS3 because its so hard to program for but now that its selling comparably to the 360, they all of a sudden want to develop for it more. Make a choice dude.

You are right. So the typical pattern of his games strikes again. A lot of preview hype and announcement of features and then announcements that those features will not be shipping with the game and a promise to released at a future time. Is there anyone who is more full of shit than this guy? The excuse is that they need to tweak it more. WELL THEN DON'T RELEASE THE GAME UNTIL IT'S TWEAKED.

In all fairness, all his changes of stance have been business decisions - The idea of shipping a 360 without a hard disk was either an accessories cash-grab or just a drive to push people to the Premium model. The amount of development concessions devs had to make because they couldn't count on a HDD being there was silly.
Your other sentence is pretty self-explanatory - when the PS3 was selling in low volumes and had its teething troubles, there was no point in wasting development time on it. Now its a more mature platform, it's more desirable. In other words Gabe is a businessman, not a fanboy. He felt the 360 had flaws, but he also felt it was a solid platform that would open up plenty of opportunities to his company.
He felt the PS3 was a pain in the ass to code for and did not warrant the time investment due to the amount of units sold. That's now changed, in part because outside forces are requesting that Valve support it, more than Valve themselves wants to. |

Hey Mr. Molyneux and Lionhead. Hear this...
No money from me until you complete the game. I'll catch you in the bargain bin when all the features are added.
