GamingIndians.com recently had the chance to test-drive Need for Speed:
Undercover at the Games Convention Asia 2008 in Singapore. When they asked
producer John Doyle if there would be a demo of this next installment
in the street racing series, they were told EA is concentrating on development
of the game itself, and there is no plan to release a demo. Thanks Gamer's Hell.

Does a NFS game even need a demo? I'd say about 90% of all NFS purchases are based off the brand name alone.

Ok first off, this so called trend you speak of that EA doesnt release demos is a load of crap.
Facebreaker, NHL 09, Fifa 09, NBA Live 09, Mercs 2, Tiger Woods 09, Head Coach 09, Madden 09, NCAA 09, Battlefield Bad Company, Nascar 09, etc, etc...and the list goes on. All of these released as demos in the last two months or so.
As for their reasons for not having a demo for Undercover...who knows if its valid or not. Who cares? You should be more concerned whether its going to have limited installs/activations, whether they will shut down the servers for the past games to force you to buy this one, etc.

Is it me or is there now a trend by EA not to release demos? They realized demos probably lose them more sales than it gains them. Lets face it, most of EA's games are bad. So on average, a demo would scare away a lot of gamers. Especially PC gamers who will scream "CONSOLE PORT" and run crying in the other direction at the first sign of a font bigger than 10 pts.

After the poor showing with Carbon (compared to NfS:MW) and the bilge that was Pro Street, it's pretty safe to say that not offering a demo might verge on commercial suicide regardless of the platform.

Hmm well I didn't buy the last one based on the demo. So although they know they won't drive away any more longterm fans with a demo they also won't get any back.
Based purely on the last ones demo and without a demo of this I'm not going to be buying it (which is a shame cause I used to love them) |
