The Far Cry 2 interview on Play.tm is
an interesting conversation with producer LP Pharand about Ubisoft's upcoming
first-person shooter sequel. They discuss the switch to the African setting,
other changes from the original game, handling AI in an open-world environment,
the moral ambiguity of their game world, and more. He also says they have a few
surprises in their downloadable content plans, saying: it's "going to be really
awesome." He also definitively says there "will be a Far Cry 3" when asked about
a sequel, making it sort of clear that it's uncertain whether this will be a
complete sequel or what he calls "a 2.5 type game," which could come out sooner
with few new features: "Two or four years... I don't know. The
brand is a triple-A shooter, we are, in a way, reinventing the FPS genre. I
expect huge things... Ubisoft expects that. To achieve that takes time. So...
it'll go in one or the other direction... we'll see!"

Well said Dagok, people forget about the press side of the "hype" equation.

I really don't understand why they are talking about DLC and a sequel before the new game is even out. Because it was an interview and the interviewer asking him about those things.
Would you rather he just said "no comment", instead of giving an answer and telling us nothing?
A very good reason (for me at least) to consider buying the game is knowing they are going to support it with DLC, unlike other games (see Crysis).

They're being pretty sneaky, right at the last minute they're putting in "Massives" dynamic tracking in-game ad system in the form of billboards. That PC Gamer UK review mentioned it yet they didn’t allow PC Gamer to review the game with the billboards in place.
All those pictures and videos of sweeping vistas of African outback are now null and void until they show just how obnoxious the ad placement is going to be, the only hint so far is the "Gamestop" pre-order exclusive video where they show off the pre-order details in the game itself on billboards.

Yep, I'm onboard. Just want to see what they did with the 3D engine compared to what Crytek did with it.

I really don't understand why they are talking about DLC and a sequel before the new game is even out. I'd rather they wait until they have concrete info, not just 'trust me it will be great!'

We were at E3 and a journalist was playing, he used all his medication trying to save his buddy. This is in-game, there's no cut-scenes. In the end the buddy grabbed the gun and put it to his head and says "go ahead buddy, pull it, put me out of my misery". The guy just put the controller down and says "what the f*** is this? This isn't cool." That's the reaction we were looking for. We want you to be forced to make decisions. hehe nice |

PC Gamer UK who is usually pretty harsh unlike their US compatriots gave the game a fairly high score so I'm still hopeful. Someone scanned the magazine and posted it up on other forums. Supposedly the medicine requirements can be annoying later on in the game but the gameplay is wide open and allows for a lot of variance.
