Celebrating today's 13th anniversary of the release of the original Command &
Conquer, RedAlert3.com now offers
original Red Alert for free, as promised ( story). They point the
way to this page
for the downloads of the 500 MB soviet disk and the 500 MB allied disk. They
request that these files not be mirrored elsewhere. That downloads page also has
a video with a bunch of FMV from Red Alert 3 showing off the game's
star-studded cast. There's also a
Red Alert 3 Q&A on GameSpot talking with producer Greg Kasavin about the
Allied faction in the alternate history RTS sequel, pointing the way to
a new Red Alert 3 trailer with gameplay and FMV sequences.

Well low and behold, EA has shut down the internet support for it. No server or anything, you can't even login. Uh, the WOL servers are indeed down if you were trying to log in with your old nickname and stuff. However, all connections are being redirected to XWIS: http://strike-team.net/nuke/html/ or http://xwis.net/

Man fuck EA! I just fired up Red Alert 2 yesterday to get back to one of the funnest RTS games ever made. I had lots of fun comp stompin. Then I"m thinking, lets get back to where it was insanely fun, ONLINE. Well low and behold, EA has shut down the internet support for it. No server or anything, you can't even login. Fuck YOU EA! How the hell can anyone support their game when you know they are gonna shut it down once the average gamers playing online dips below 5000. Unlike Blizzard, they feel, if they shut it down, that's money saved. Cheap bastards. Fuck them.

Red Alert 3 is missing important online features like previous CNC titles:
1) There really are no random games. At the very least, a random team option under team selection. I would love to be able to play 3v3 random matches, but unfortunately, I am stuck playing in stacked team games like all other CNC titles and refuse to buy any more.
2) Mandatory stats creates online politics and ruins online play. Stats should only be accumulated through ladder play for the players that want it. Blizzard does this right by not having stats in custom games.
3) Problems with routers. My son could not play CNC3 with me online, but can play AOE3 and Blizzard games.

I wonder why they don't want the files mirrored... |

TB: You forgot the diverse factions which were introduced for C&C1. The formula was perfected by SC and that was it. =)
C&C's crazy storylines and cheesy videos are fun though.

You speak from experience. Isn't that how your bitch-ass sister died? Fu b, fu... What a classy guy, ladies and gentlemen! We are honored to be in the presence of such a magnanimous gentleman. Surely we are not allowed to lick your precious taint, you glorious bastard.

If the modern C&C/RA was more than Dune 2 with better graphics and multi unit selection id be interested.... but it isnt. It almost makes the Mario series seem original.
