StarCraft II Fourth Race Must Wait for Expansion

Videogaming247 has a follow-up to speculation that a fourth race will be included in StarCraft II, learning from Blizzard cofounder Frank Pearce that the game will definitely ship with three races. He does, however say that a fourth race may come "in the event" of an expansion, humorously implying that there's a chance there will not be any add-ons for the RTS sequel. They quote Pearce as saying: "We talked about the possibility of a fourth race early on, but we felt like we had a finite amount of great ideas and wanted to make sure we focused all the cool, best ideas on the existing three races rather than diluting those ideas across four races."

They probably have one of those fund raiser thermometers on the office wall. At the top of the meter it reads, "New Race."

We've already included a 3d engine and 1 new unit per race! What ELSE do you fuckers want? It's the exact same game with a new paintjob!

New race? Yeah, maybe in the fourth expansion!

But balance is much more important.
Balance is key to multiplayer longevity.

I am impressed that they did not claim to have an unending fount of great ideas. That is surprisingly humble of them.

But balance is much more important.

You don't want Starcraft 2 turning into CC3, where everybody in every tournament plays the same race.
*sorry, couldn't resist*

I'll take 3 perfectly balanced races for multiplayer play over 4, 6, or 8+ anyday.

I hope that SCII is released early next year like mars or april so that might give the expansion a release window around holiday season 09.
Mars is before April? Doh! I was thinking it was before Jupiter...

Obviously there will be an expansion only question is when. I hope that SCII is released early next year like mars or april so that might give the expansion a release window around holiday season 09.

The interesting thing about a new race is of course what it will be if it is introduced. The Ancients maybe? Oh well I guess time will tell...

That is funny. That's like Blizzard the crack dealer saying "gee, I don't know, I might just be out today" and the collective gaming world foaming at the mouth and falling over...
