Sounds like you want to write in Ron Paul...that's what I'll be doing Might as well write in Kodos. It would have about as much effect.

If the USA ever has another one, the next "civil war" or "revolution" will be mainly electronic, not violent.. and the best hackers will be the heros who go down in history, probably under their handle and nothing else
that doesnt mean the results wont be any less catastrophic, however
problem is, the window for this is closing faster than you can say "patriot act" |

Yeah, that's insane! How can Chi...oh, wait, it's good 'ol America that is doing this.
And, let me guess, this is to protect America from terrorists, right?
I hate to say it, but I am very worried about the country. I am thoroughly unimpressed with the current president and I am extremely worried about how this current election is progressing and what this next President will have to deal with.
America really needs to make some big changes, but it does not seem like anybody either realizes this or is willing to do it. We've too long fallen back on the "We can do whatever we want because we're big!" and it is biting us in the ass (in addition to being morally wrong.)
I have no idea what the hell we're doing in Iraq, our dollar is in the toilet, our trade imbalances are just getting biiger, our deficit is huge, we have no energy plan, we have a very poor infrastructure, we have very little say in the world, etc.
Meanwhile, all anybody seems to care about is fighting at the Democrats/Republicans. It sickens me that these elections are nearly devoid of ideas or plans and are being won on smears, insults, lies, misquotes, and populist speeches. Don't get me started on "terrorism" and the xenophobia that is gripping the country, the so-called "land of the free."
It's just really sad and frustrating. Oh, can we agree that losers don't deserve winnings? :(, Ray

Bah.. these folks wouldn't know fiscal conservatism and power to the states, true republican ideals, if is pecked their eyes out. QFMFT. Life long Rep here - but the Reps have become their own worst enemy. They are exactly the opposite of what they preach and believe they are. Federal Gubmint has over reached and now encroaches on State's and Individual liberties. They have lost sight of their mission.
We would be far better off if the State's retained their powers and you could choose the state to live in that fit with your values.....
Anyway, Innocent asked who I am voting for? I won't be. The President slot will be left blank. I will be voting for all other chairs, local government seats, judges, sheriffs, etc. I refuse to vote for the lesser evil. I have zero faith in either ticketed leader.
I don't agree with voting just because I can. Neither individual is worthy of my vote. Neither individual was worth my vote the prior 2 elections. I won't vote along party lines "just because" I am registered with that party. Republicans hate me and Democrats can't stand me.
We are a young country - we would probably benefit from another type of internal war.
/nice post Fion - as "jaded" as you claim it is - those who wish to peer into the reality of things know there is truth within the words. Government is too big. I try to give my leaders the benefit of the doubt - but there is too much raw data that is public in their own earnings reports, lobbyists watch dog groups data, etc., to believe that they know wtf they are doing. They are clueless - most of the time they don't even show up to vote. I have friends that work for lobbyists firms - the stuff they tell me scares the hell out of me. - and they $ they make scares me even more!
The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention. This message was edited at Aug 26, 16:44. |

Let me add that I think a lot of inspiring leaders do have a good brain in their head, and have good ideas, and are passionate about putting this country into a good direction.
But in the years and years they spend earning the cridentials necessary they fall into the endless chess game that is the Republican and Democratic power struggle. One that is so petty that they even fight over which side is gonna own the local sports teams. Don't think thats a joke either.
Along the way they find themselves working a few days a week, riding around in jets. Owning multi-million dolor homes financed to them by some insider or power-broker in return for some 'favors.' They inevitably grow hungry for that power, and corrupt by it. Even if they are strong and resist that, they cannot help but grow detached from reality and the situations of the common people. They forgot how many homes they own (ok that was a bad one lol.) They have people doing everything for them. They don't cook their own meals, they don't drive themselves to work.. etc.
In the end they become detached from the reality of the people they serve as they become more and more involved in the petty chess game between the parties and so involved they forget whats real in life. To the point that when running for an office, they immerse themselves in activities of the common folk. To me it is as if they have forgotten them and immersing themselves in a church dinner or a food pantry for the poor.. they again get a sense of what is real in life, something most of them have long forgotten.
Then they run for president, not having a single freaking clue what is really going on accept for what their advisers and pollers tell them. They talk the same exact talk their writers write for them. What will appeal to the people. What will get them elected to the highest house in the land. Nothing else really matters. Once THEY are in command THEY get to make the big decisions. THEY get to lead their party, and their loyalists and be damned with the other. They won the chess game!
Then every 4 years the same thing repeats. And the american people fall for it hook line and sinker. The race stops being about who is the most qualified. Who has the best ideas... and turns into who can put on the biggest pageant. Who can be the most popular. Who can pander to the audience the best. Americans start voting off some petty and predictable 'party affiliations.' The 'them vs us' and tribal identity that is so ingrained in our psyche. Lets get OUR guy to the top, to hell and back with anyone that disagrees. Who's better? Who should lead? Who has the best ideals? Who would make a better leader? Who would provide fresh insights and set this country on a good path? Who gives a F*#K! It's our man or nobody!
Rather pathetic, but it's the truth. This time around I'm voting for the young guy because it's my own hope that he hasn't been around long enough to fall into the trap.. the chess game. He's young enough he still has his ideals and his morality, but old enough to have a sense of reality. But chances are.. he'll fall into the same old patterns.
Last.. let me say damn my uncle for instilling in me this jaded attitude. When I was but a kid in my 20's I thought 'how can he be such a cynic. The future is bright man!' Today I see that to those in power there is only black or white. Grey is a figment of our f*#king imagination and the only thing important is that their color stays in power and that the other shouldn't really exist.
It's rather pathetic and our forefathers must be rolling in their graves. To think that their fascinating and completely ahead of their time their ideas were and how perverted it has all become.
Every great civilization rises and falls at a hairs breath. America has risen in power and become the most dominant nation on earth in a whisper of time. It took thousand years for Rome to rise to it's most powerful point, and then fall again. Will the United States of America fall as fast as it has risen? At the current rate of entropy this government is force-feeding us, I would say that'd be a healthy prediction.
Now.. time I leave this subject. If I dwell on it eventually it'll drive me into a melancholy that'll last far to long for such a good monday afternoon. This message was edited at Aug 26, 15:30. |

The US has been slowing turning into a Police State for about 7 years now as government control continues to over-ride the States themselves with gigantic fights breaking out when the states decide something the government disagrees with. Policies like this that let our ever-growing federal government more in control, more able to do what they want, when they want, with zero oversight, zero consequences.
I'm a life long democrat. But even I see that our current leaders are anything but republicans. Hell they aren't even conservative. I see them bringing up 'john mccain is like Regan.' Bah.. these folks wouldn't know fiscal conservatism and power to the states, true republican ideals, if is pecked their eyes out.
I can only hope our next president sees the dangerous road we are heading down and pulls back on the reins. But I feel he's just going to fall in with the same old crowds. Turn from his real ideals and fall to the pressure. No matter if his current message is 'change we can believe in' or not.
Ah to have the days of Clinton back. He was to focused on getting laid and going through his mid-life crysis to get to deep into this kind of crap. But he made sure the country was healthy and happy at least.
I really wanted Hillary. Mostly because I knew her husband would be one hell of an adviser.
