Project Origin is now expected in the first quarter of 2009, a delay from
its previously planned release later this year, reports
IGN. They learned of the setback during a demo of Monolith's sequel to the
horror-themed first-person shooter F.E.A.R., but no reason was supplied.

Too late, I've already said that in past Project Origin topics. That said, I am looking forward to this, even if it is dumbed down for consoles. I thought the firefights in FEAR were a lot of fun and this looks to be more of the same. Levels look to have a lot more variety too. I'm just hoping that applies to the enemies as well. I know. That's why I mentioned it
But yeah there seem to be quite a few more enemy types. In FEAR it was just soldiers with two different uniforms, and some ghosts.
Looking at the higher rez screenshots, they seem to have added a lot more visual juice to the engine compared to the original. At first I didnt think the improvement was that big, but then I looked back at old screenshots of FEAR, and this is just way ahead. The same type of graphical style, but with way more detail.

In before Jerykk screaming 'CONSOLEEEE!!!!' Well, it's looking quite decent but I'm already worried by the mechwarriors in it. That and I wasn't especially impressed with FEAR - I found it very repetitive, stereotypical and didn't find it scary. A delay is both a good thing and a bad thing... first, it means that they're trying to address the issues; secondly, it means they had so many issues that they HAD to delay it in the first place.
I'll wait for the reviews / demo.

Founder of the "I Hate Smiley Fitz, n00bdog and Twonky" society CPU upgrade? Check. Graphics upgrade? Not sure. I can wait for DX11 or grab a second 4870 now... or do both. Hmmm. |

maybe playtesting showed lack of interest, it would have gotten lost in the fall line-up anyway.

Maybe that's why? Maybe they decided to beef up some of the modeling/textures at the 11th hour. You could do that in a few months, but you couldn't make major engine revisions.

Since if it had come out this year I probably wouldn't have gotten it anyways, but what on earth is delaying this? It's basically FEAR all over again, with perhaps a few new monsters. Even the textures look mostly the same.
